About Rivendell

Suitable For

Rivendell is best suited to couples, families, small groups or anyone looking for peace, relaxation and time way from it all in nature.

We expect all arrivals before 21.00hrs and quiet on site after 22.00hrs.

We love dogs, guests are very welcome to bring their 4 legged friends at no extra charge but in return we expect them to keep the accommodation clean and not soil any soft furnishings. We ask for all dog mess to be cleaned up and ask owners to wash and dry their dogs before allowing them inside (we provide an outside tap and hose for this and ask owners to bring towels and bedding but can supply on request if you forget!). Although we do not charge for dogs if we incur additional cleaning costs we reserve the right to deduct this from the security deposit.

Guests are asked to leave their cars in our parking area so the site is largely traffic free, we provide barrows/carts to move luggage to your accommodation. Both the Lodge and Cabin are up a hill and not best suited to those with limited mobility.

Nearby

Nestled in the hillside over the steam railway line just mile out of Pickering guests really do have it all on their doorstep. A stroll along the footpath at the end of the drive takes you into the thriving market town of Pickering with lots of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. There's a bike hire centre too and of course the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Station if you fancy a trip on the fabulous steam railway, this can easily be combined with lunch at one the the stops and/or a lovely walk back through the valley to Rivendell. A few miles away Dalby Forest has a great visitors centre, mountain biking, go ape, Segway experiences and an adventure playground, then there's Castle Howard, Sutton Bank, Flamingoland and many other attractions all within 30-45 minutes drive away. In addition there the beautiful North Yorkshire coast, the Cleveland Way and a day trip into York if you can fit it in!

Food & Drink

Pickering has many lovely cafes, bakeries, pubs and restaurants. We haven't tried all but the following have been mentioned to us, Feast, Klarnein Cafe, Two Burgate, Namaste Bengal, Dotties, Piggies in the Middle, Cedar Barn, Whole Hogg, Cafe Cocoa. Further afield Graze on the Green in Rosedale Abbey and Lockton tea rooms are worth a drive plus a trip to Malton for amazing homemade ice cream at Groovy Moo's is definitely worth the calories. The Fox and Rabbit pub on the road to Whitby does great food as does the Royal Oak Inn at Gillamoor. Let us know your recommendations and we can share with future guests!
